My last night adventure at Sogo Kota Kasablanka Mall with Max Factor.
Appreciate good customer service by the make up artist there, Mr. Badawi.
They are having promotion:

- Creme Puff, buy 1 get 1 free at IDR 70,000
They had another promo: Buy 3 lip glosses at IDR 99,000!
Somehow I wasn't attracted after I saw the color options and texture available.

Wedding Day

Here I am.... The wedding, on September 17, 2011.
It took more than three hours to finish everything. One and half hour for make up and the rest for doing the head cover with many many many pins.... From 2 PM to 5.30 PM
Mrs. Dewi, my bridal make up artist, was ill so Ms. Vera, her daughter did the make up. She also did the decoration of my wedding throne.
Vera put heavier coverage but I still love it. Many people said I looked different, glowing....
I was soooo stressful when saw my uncle's text. He said he'd be late to pick up Hakim from airport. I couldn't think anymore. I just prayed and prayed. I know Hakim will manage to contact us.
Voila! Our first meeting, he was at my door, smiling. We chat for awhile then he got ready with his suite.

Bridal make up test

As I'm moving toward to my wedding date, I decided to get bridal make up test with the make up artist. She's the mother of my friend's. Her name is Mrs. Dewi.
When I was at her place, we discussed about the color of the my wedding dress, how I'd like to have my head cover, and many more. I also discussed about the decoration of wedding "throne", which will be done by my friend's older sister. Yes, the family has a business related to wedding :)
So Mrs. Dewi prep my face by cleaning, toning, and apply ice cubes to my face.
She picked up neutral colors, which what I have in mind.
Here's the result (taken after few hours, when I got home, I forgot to bring my camera with me):

Organizing make up stuffs

When I realized I have more and more make up stuffs, and I just piled them up in the corner of my room, I had to do something, otherwise I will spend time just to find what I look for when I'm doing my make up.
I bought one container from Lock N Lock a couple of months ago. Yesterday I went to Giant hypermart, tried to find the same container, but it wasn't sold there. But I found this pink organizer.
When I got home, I re-organized everything.
Here's how it looks like now:

My vanity

Right shelf: foundations and face powders

Left shelf: miscellaneous

Samples of eye pigments

My brooches

The pink organizer

Lock N lock container for lip products

1st shelf: eye products

2nd shelf: eye shadow and more samples

3rd shelf: Full size eye pigments

4th shelf: blush on, highlighter, bronzers

I think I will have enough stock for years to come :)

Providence and Grace

When I was blog walking and read a post from a beauty blogger who I follow (Gosh I forgot her name, I'll get back to you on this soon!) about this brand, I was intrigued.
I went to the Etsy store, http://www.etsy.com/shop/ProvidenceAndGrace.
Found pretty lip colors and eye shadows.
I read the profile and it has its own website http://www.providenceandgrace.com/. There was sale on the website. I sent message to Jen through Etsy and asked why there was price difference, lower price on her website.
She said that the cost and fees for her website are less than fees for Etsy, so she can afford to offer her products at a better price there. She also has a better selection of items on the website.
So go there now, hehehe

I purchased below items:
Lipstick 4 x $4.49 :
- Divine
- Element
- Flirt
- Cadence
Coconut Lip Scrub $2.62

Lip products

From above to bottom:
Element, Flirt, Divine, Cadence

Blush 2 x $5.99:
- DELIGHT Fail Proof Blush
- Pink Lemonade

Left: Delight, Right: Pink Lemonad

Delight and Pink Lemonade

Green Concealer $2.99
7 Color Stacker $14.96: Apple Cinnamon, Arabia, Enchanted Forest, Indigo, Queen Anne, Victoria, Bolera.
Apple Cinnamon is a warm and inviting color. It is a soft brown with red highlights and sparkle.
Arabia is a beautiful sandy color. This does not have the usual reddish undertones that most mineral makeup browns have
Enchanted Forest is a mesmerizing deep shimmery green
Indigo is a darker bluish purple color
Queen Anne is a beautiful red  color
Victoria is a beautiful deep purple color with hints of pink
Bolera is a deep russety orange color

Shadow in the jar

With no flash
1st row, L to R: Bolera - Apple Cinnamon - Arabia
2nd row, L to R: Queen Anne - Indigo - Enchanted Forrest
3rd row: Victoria

I asked Jen about foundation colors that will match my skin tone, she's generous enough to send me several foundations samples (in the N4-N7 range) and veils :)

PAC from Martha Tilaar

PAC or Professional Artist Cosmetics is produced by Martha Tilaar, Indonesian famous brand for make up. This line of cosmetics is for stage make up or bridal make up. Maybe we can compare it as Make Up Forever  brand ? What other International brand I can compare with? Hmmm.......
You can check out the website here http://www.pacbeauty.com/, but it's in Bahasa.

For me, I'd use this cosmetics for special occasions. The price is slightly higher, but still affordable :)
I purchased the basic staple of the cosmetics a year ago.
The result of wearing the set is nice, I have good coverage. The most important thing is that my skin doesn't irritate.
A sample of my look wearing the foundations and face powder is here, when I attended a colleague's wedding.

What do I have in my basic collection?

- PAC Perfect Finish Creamy Foundation No. 04
- PAC Long Wearing Two Way Cake in Light Ivory
- PAC Loose Powder No. 3
- PAC Shimmering Powder For Face, Crystal

How I apply the make up is based on above sequence.
First, apply the creamy foundation using the sponge provided with downward movement or as per direction of your face hair grow.
Then apply the Long Wearing Two Way Cake. Set with Loose Powder.
And if you want to add some glow/shimmer, apply the Shimmering Powder.
And here are the pictures

It has mirror

Got henna painting in Penang

I was in Penang Malaysia for office duty on Aug 20-22, 2010. We had ASEAN Operating Room Nurse gathering there.
At the dinner event on our first night, while waiting for Buka Puasa, the hotel provided henna painting artist for us. I decided to get the painting after the dinner, when I didn't have to wait for the long queue.
There were my colleagues and several of nurses.
The artist name was Dayang, she was with her fiance who is a photographer.
She was pretty. Too bad I didn't have my camera with me because the battery power was low, otherwise I'd take picture of the process.
She applied a kajuputih oil on the site of my hand which will be painted. She said it was to make the skin clean and brighter.
She used henna paste in tube. It took her around 10 minutes to draw the painting. I had to wait til it dries before I could take my shower. I ended up taking shower at 11 PM! She said it needs 10 minutes to dry, but in reality it was almost 1 hour before I can put my hand under the water.

It didn't last long for my painting. It's the fourth day, and some part of the painting has been washed away.
Dayang said the handmade henna paste will last longer.

I and my friend cloncluded that the darker the skin, the longer it will last, and the brighter the color appeared.

So here are the pics taken the day after painting made:

Henna Painting no. 3 and 4

Speaking about henna, henna is a naturally occurring dye traditionally used in fabrics and temporary skin designs. Henna tattoos are a popular option for people who are interested in body art but don't want to commit to the permanence or pain of a tattoo. Henna ink can be applied to the skin where it is absorbed over a period of several hours.
The henna painting is not just in Indian or Pakistan culture. Indonesian also has similar culture.
Usually it's done to a bride to be, the night before her wedding day.

For example, you can see here, the picture of my niece's wedding. Check out her hand.

My skin care and make up adventure

The passion for beauty products and make up has started since I was a teenager. I think it’s because of the influence of my mom.

As I’m growing my online beauty shop, filling it with quality products which I pick myself, I feel I’m more and more get into this beauty world adventure. When I have to survey products, test it on myself, and launch the products, it’s just like it should be. Temptation to buy the test products for myself is big too! I can’t help it. Etsy, the main source for me to do the searching for handmade natural products has so many artists joined.

This blog will also be a part of my experiments of products before I put them on my online beauty shop. Hauls and reviews or test result will be here. I can always keep the notes to myself, but it’s always better to share the thoughts and discuss it with the ladies out here.

My online shop consists of skin care, beauty care, and mineral make up products. My mission is to bring in those unique natural products to the market.

So you can imagine how many products that I will test. It also depends on the request of customers when they want to have certain products in my shop.

I don’t mind, in fact I’m so happy every time I must test them, lovely products. Only receiving the packages is already giving me joy. From opening of the package, unpack them, looking at cute packaging and colors of the products… I’m addicted! Even my four years old niece is enjoying the scene too.

When it comes testing the products, I must have special time and preparation. I still work for a company, which takes most of my time. I can’t do the test every night, except when I‘m able to go home early. It’s always better to do the test during weekend. I’ll just put on them, even complete make up, although I’m just staying at home. I can do any house chores during the test.

I keep open communication with the artists who create the products so I can get more information on the product benefits. And when I think I do wrong test method, I will ask them for insights and get right application method.

And what happens now is that I have envelopes and small boxes from the product tested in my small room. I think I will do some pre-loved clearance sale later.

What makes it more fun is because I found out so many ladies, write blogs, make tutorial videos etc, and share their experience and opinion on beauty products. Giving me more knowledge on beauty stuffs.

Enjoy my posts....

The Body Shop Sale and its new lipsticks

I always check out what's new at The Body Shop.
When I went to Puri Mall after work yesterday, I saw their sale.
Thinking to buy new lipstick. Hey, they've got 3 for 2. You buy 2 lipsticks and you get 1 free lipstick.
So, I called my sister and asked whether she needed new lipstick. She said yes. The effort taken was to choose right color for her and for me is some new or different colors.

Result:
No. 14 - Pink Ginger, for my sister
No. 21 - Soft Red
No. 49 - Berry Shimmer
Total IDR 278,000
I love the texture of this lipstick. I had one from The Body Shop, but it's matte. When I have dry lips, it's difficult to apply on my lips.

Oh, I also bought nail buffer (IDr 30,000)

From top: No. 14 - Pink Ginger, No. 21 - Soft Red, No. 49 - Berry Shimmer

NYX blush and mascara

I accidentally found NYX when I was window shopping at Tunjungan Plaza, Surabaya this week when I traveled for duty.
I have been reading several make up blogs and they mentioned about NYX. I just browsed through the product display in this department Store (Matahari) to see what they have.
I can't help to check out the blush-on because I need one for my travel kit.
At that time, I didn't bring enough money, so I thought I'd buy the item when I get back to Jakarta. The beauty stylish said I can find NYX at EX Plaza, Jakarta Pusat.

One day passed by and I received some money, I went back to the dept. store and bought the mozaic powder in Peach color. I also bought Doll Mascara, because the one I had in my travel kit (Maybelline something.... I threw it right away just after I got back to my hotel room) can't stay long day. At the end of the day, I'll have dark color under my eyes because of the mascara. Total purchase: IDR 280,000 but I 've got 10% discount, final figure: IDR 252,000 and I received cosmetic bag too!

Notes on mineral make up products and beauty websites

My posting today consists of reviews and notes on make up products, websites, and videos about make up and tutorials.

I've been loving make up since my junior high years, but of course at that time I couldn't wear them because of the age. But I have started applying moisturizer and lip balm at that age :)

As I grew up, I started to use make up when I went to college. Bought so many lip colors to try on.
Eye shadow and blush were used when I started my first job, and the adventure begins.

Now, I have a vision to have my own business in make up or skin and body treatment products. I'm still doing my research on the products that I should promote.

Let's start with make up products.

I'm going to discuss about mineral make-up, because this type of beauty products has attracted my attention. Mineral make-up in my country, Indonesia, is not that common yet. I know some of the make-up line such as Revlon and The Body Shop have entered this segment, but they are not focus on mineral make-up, so this line can be only stay in the market for awhile then I may not see them again in the future.
The Body Shop mineral make up lines are too expensive. We are also required to buy brushes separately, which are costly too.

I bought my first mineral make up product when I was in Shanghai. It's from Maybelline, called Pure Mineral Natural Healthy Powder Foundation, W2 shade. It provide brush in the package. Price was RMB 199. I couldn't get much information about this powder because the Make Up Specialist couldn't speak English. She just showed me how to apply the powder. Also, I think the shade didn't match my skin tone because it looks dull on me.

During my research for mineral make up product line. If I'm going to import these products, I need to consider product pricing and shipment cost, so I can provide new, interesting, economical beauty products to my market.

I found these brands match my category:
It has lots of eye shadow colors and you can always buy sample at only USD 1!
The maker is also concern on social responsibility to help, e.g. cancer patients.

I love the Dusk til Dawn™ Skin Care, which is recommended for those with blemish prone and/or oily skin.

Has affordable samples too but not much choice on full size: 10 gr!

I bumped to http://lovingminerals.com, a site owned by Malaysian ladies that sells some of the brands above. I have ordered my samples, can't wait to try them :)
I'm thinking to contact the lady for discussion about the business.

Next, I need to learn how I apply mineral make up because it will be different from the usual make up lines. Above brands provide tutorial and make up tips too. That will be helpful!
So, I found so many tutorial videos and websites about the topics on YouTube.Com. I looked the ones that uses above brands so I have the picture about the application.

Another Malaysian lady's website that interests me is SkinDeco.Net. She's really creative and provides so many make up tutorials, also she lives in Malaysia, which is close to Indonesia. So her choosing of color may match my skin tone.

I'm planning to order some of the products to try (eye colors from Pure Luxe are my priority!) and will write down my business plan.....

Cosmetics Shelf Life

Are you cosmetics freak? Now, this is very important for you.
Check your cosmetics collection and throw away those which are beyond their shelf life.

Makeup shelf life guidelines to follow: (Source: Suite101.com)

First off, if it smells, stinks, has a distinct odor that should not be, throw it away! I am amazed at how long women will keep cosmetics that have a bad odor. Do yourself a favor and trash it.

Another good rule of thumb, if you can't remember when you purchased it, trash it. Makeup should not stir up memories from ten years ago. If you makeup bag does, throw it out!

Thank you to iVillage for the article, Are your cosmetics past their use-by date? by Eva Gizowska. The following is a simple guideline to follow when you are cleaning out your makeup bag.

  • Oil-Free Foundation: 1 year
  • Cream or Compact Foundation: 18 months
  • Concealer: 12-18 months
  • Powder: 2 years
  • Blush and Bronzer: 2 years
  • Cream Blush: 12-18 months
  • Powder Eye shadow: 2 years
  • Cream Eye shadow: 12-18 months
  • Eyeliner: 2 years
  • Liquid eyeliner: 3-6 months
  • Mascara: 3 months
  • Lipstick: 2 years
  • Lip liner: 2 years
  • Lip gloss: 18-24 months
  • Nail Color: 1 year

If you are using natural cosmetics, these should be thrown out sooner. Regular cosmetics contain ingredients that do help prolong shelf life. But of course natural cosmetics do not. Please check with your favorite natural store for the information on the cosmetics you love.

Buy yourself a Sharpie to keep with your makeup bag. Write your own expiration date on the cosmetics that way you will always know when it is time to replace.
